Site Introduction

Gorai Jetty, located on Mumbai’s north-western coast, functions as a key transit node linking the city to Gorai village and nearby islands. It operates as a dynamic interface between land and water, shaped by tidal fluctuations, boat traffic, and pedestrian flow. The site’s constantly changing spatial and functional conditions make it a significant point of study for understanding temporal and adaptive waterfront architecture.

The waiting space at Gorai Jetty acts as both a shelter and photobooth, positioned above the water as a fluid, ribbed structure inspired by wave motion. Its porous form allows light and air to filter through, creating a dynamic play of shadow while framing views of the sea. This intervention transforms the act of waiting into an experiential pause, capturing moments of transit and reflection along the waterfront.
